Kali Linux: Demystified
Hello Hackers! If you ever just simply tried looking up even a little about “Hacking” you probably already heard about Linux, or more specifically Kali Linux. But what is Kali Linux or simply Kali? Why is it so famous among Hackers? What are it’s features? How to get on with it? So, Let’s dive right in and find out
What is Kali Linux?
According to the Official Kali Linux Website: Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution aimed at advanced Penetration Testing and Security Auditing. Kali contains several hundred tools which are geared towards various information security tasks, such as Penetration Testing, Security research, Computer Forensics and Reverse Engineering. It is developed, funded and maintained by Offensive Security, a leading information security training company.
So basically it is a Pentesting OS based on Debian Linux, including a plethora of tools ranging from Brute Forcing and WiFi Hacking to full fledged Web Application Pentesting!
Oh and in case you’re wondering, Penetration Testing is referred to as an offensive approach to find Vulnerabilities and Security Weaknesses in a Network or Website and patch the loopholes before someone with “bad intentions” find their way into it! And everything, of course, with the consent of the Owner or Organization!(The guys who does these tests are often known as Ethical or White Hat Hackers).
Okay so what is so amazing about it?
Now that you basically know what is Kali Linux, you’d be probably wondering about what makes it so damn popular? Let’s see then…
Some of the most useful features of Kali Linux are:
- More than 600 penetration testing tools
- Free and always will be!
- Open Source Git Tree: Meaning the whole source code is available for anyone to tweak and rebuild packages according to their needs
- FHS Compliant: Kali adheres to the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, allowing Linux users to easily locate binaries, support files, libraries, etc.
- Wide-ranging Wireless device support
- Custom Kernel, patched for injection
- Developed in a Secure Environment
- GPG Signed packages and repos: Each package signed by the developer who built it
- Multi-Language Support
- Completely Customizable
- ARMEL and ARMHF support: Supports a large variety of devices like PCs, some Android Devices, Raspberry Pi, etc.

Still, Why is it so famous among Hackers?
I guess you already figured this out yourself by now, right? A “plethora” of tools, high customizability, flexibility and documentation of being a Linux based OS are probably the main reasons for Kali Linux to be a go-to OS for Hackers.
So you’re saying you cannot be a Hacker without Kali Linux?
Of course you can! There’s a lot of people out there using different flavors of Linux, Windows, Mac and even some other OS(es) out there and are still beyond great! Kali Linux just works as a Car. You obviously can do with a Bicycle. But a Car just makes your work more smooth and easy!

I guess the servers are pretty decent with the amount of content and traffic as of now, updating everything is definitely on my list tho, bust as you see there aren’t any ads or so and I don’t earn a penny from this, so just acquiring some bucks for the same 😉 And yeah, I’ve been quite busy with lots of stuff going on and as there’s only me managing everything it’s been off the mark for some time now!
